There are elements of one in each of the others. Philosophy has been influenced by ‘common sense’ at different times. Equally there are points in history when ‘common sense’ is fundamentally influenced by the dominant philosophy or ideology. ’45 There are also quite substantial tensions in the relationship between ‘common sense’ and the ideology or philosophy of the ruling elite which could more accurately be described as ‘class contradictions’ and which could only be reconciled through political action.

We are led to believe that in a civil society only the social deviant challenges the right of Parliament to enact law. Lawbreakers are immediately made amenable to such laws through the enforcement agencies.
