When #2 makes a pass to either outside lane in front court (#1 in Diagram 3-8), #5 prepares to rebound if he sees #1 is going to take a shot. If a shot is not taken, he posts up on ball side looking for a pass from #1. Our rebounding rule on the fast break is that the shooter or passer off the break always acts as a one-half rebounder, one-half safety. For example, it #1 shoots the ball he follows to the free throw line for a long rebound. If a teammate or an opponent gets the ball he acts as a safety on defense.
