20 Lessons for the future Utopian traditions There is a long utopian tradition in Western thought which focuses on the nature of the good life and the perfect society. Utopians may present their ideas as fiction, where the ideal society is set in some other time or place, or as a programme for political action, or in the form of intentional communities. This living tradition has much to offer students and others interested in exploring preferable futures. ’ ‘My hopes for the future are to have a happy life and to live for a long time and have a nice family.
