I had a firm view that I should try to do as much coaching in a range of different contexts (male and female, junior and adult) as a volunteer in order to gain as much experience as possible. I also realized that during this period I should also gain formal coaching qualifications so that I could coach knowing I was appropriately qualified to deliver at the ability levels I was working with.
