To build this grid ﬁle, I created a new ﬁle with a transparent background that was 8Љ ϫ 8Љ (one-third the size of my ﬁnal print but at a scale that I can print from my letter-size laser printer). 014 and the color red, and I have set my workspace up to show rulers in 52 Digital Collage and Painting inches. Holding down the Shift key, I dragged the Line Tool across the image horizontally and vertically at 2-inch increments to create a red grid. Next I opened “Cyclamen Scan,” an image created from a scan of spent cyclamen ﬂowers. The ﬂowers were scanned at high resolution using my Epson Perfection® 4490 Photo Scanner with the output set to 20 (h) ϫ 15 (w) at 300 dpi (6000 ϫ 4500). The scanned image is sharp so it can handle being enlarged with out losing details such as the pollen. The cyclamen image was copied and pasted to the Train Window ﬁle. Now, as the top layer, the cyclamen image was dragged and slightly stretched to ﬁll the dark area of the window and the blend mode was changed from Normal to Lighten 100%.
