Generally, though, you should aim at a quiet manner at the keyboard, reflecting an inner certainty and tranquillity. Students often ask whether they should look at the keyboard when they play. There is no single answer to this. It depends whether you are sight-reading, playing from memory, or something in between.

Although English harpsichord building continued vigorously until almost 1800, with the wisdom of hindsight we can see that the final two decades of the century were a period of decline, whose compromises helped consign the instrument to temporary oblivion.
